New agreement provides a flexible, affordable track for digital learning professionals to earn a graduate degree faster
Adelphi, Md. — July 27, 2026 — University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC) and Digital Learning Institute (DLI), a global provider of professional qualifications in digital learning and instructional design, announced a partnership that creates an accelerated path for professionals to earn a master’s degree in learning design and technology.
Through the partnership, graduates of DLI’s Professional Certificate in Digital Learning Design (CDLP) may transfer up to 12 credits toward UMGC’s 30-credit Master of Science in Learning Design and Technology. The agreement provides a flexible and cost-effective track for working professionals to advance their expertise in the rapidly evolving field of digital learning.
This new collaboration cements a shared commitment to meeting the demand for AI-enabled workforce training by connecting high-quality, industry-aligned learning and accredited graduate education.

UMGC’s online Master of Science in Learning Design and Technology was created with working adults in mind and emphasizes applied, real-world skills in instructional design, learning theory, digital media and user experience. By recognizing the rigor of DLI’s professional certificate, UMGC enables learners to build on existing knowledge and expedite progress toward a graduate degree.

Under the agreement, DLI graduates who enroll in UMGC’s program will receive credit for coursework in several foundational areas. In addition to transfer credits, eligible students will receive a 25 percent tuition discount on remaining coursework, reducing the cost and time required to complete the degree.
