On November 16th, UMGC opened Searching for Cultural Identity: The Collection of Jerome Gray and Brenda Sayles, a new exhibition featuring approximately 50 works depicting African American life and culture. The event welcomed members of the community alongside Jerome Gray’s granddaughter, Kenadi Kirby, who attended in celebration of her family’s legacy. The exhibition invites learners and visitors to explore themes of heritage, memory, and representation through pieces ranging from unsigned discoveries to works by artists such as Jacob Lawrence, Lois Mailou Jones, Alma Thomas, and James Lesesne Wells.
