Adelphi, Md. (Nov. 7, 2023)--Cybersecurity Association of Maryland, Inc. (CAMI) has awarded its Cybersecurity Diversity Trailblazer Award to University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC) in recognition of the university’s work to prepare an inclusive cyber workforce.

“At UMGC, we are committed to addressing the underrepresentation of minorities, women and/or other underserved populations in the cybersecurity profession,” said Dr. Loyce Pailen, senior director of the Center for Security Studies at UMGC. “We are honored to have been recognized for our demonstrated leadership in the region in this area.”

The award was presented at CAMI’s Oct. 26 awards ceremony in Columbia, Maryland.

“The 2023 Cybersecurity Awards exemplify the best of what our cybersecurity industry has to offer,” said Chris Sachse, board chairman of CAMI and CEO of Think|Stack, a managed IT services company. “The winners demonstrate not only the depth and diversity of the cybersecurity industry but the ability for the industry to meet what has become a critical need for our nation and all businesses.”

As reflected in its Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Strategic Plan, UMGC seeks to reflect the diversity of the global community. Cultural differences are recognized, valued and considered essential to the education process and working environment. UMGC promotes understanding and mutual respect of all members of its community and provides an academic and social environment that encourages new ideas, an eagerness to learn and positive working conditions.

In total, 70 nominations were considered for this year’s CAMI awards across nine categories. Entries were evaluated by 12 independent judges with significant roles in the cybersecurity and technology industries.
