Maryland Hotel Lodging Association Honors Property Owned by UMGC and Managed by Marriott at its Annual Meeting
Adelphi, Md. (May 23, 2023)—The College Park Marriott Hotel & Conference Center, owned by University of Maryland Global Campus, was named Outstanding Property of the Year for 2023 by the Maryland Hotel Lodging Association (MHLA). Aaron Wright, the facility’s general manager, accepted the honor at the association’s 33rd annual Stars of the Industry Awards Luncheon and Annual Meeting in late April.
“I strongly believe in Marriott’s long-standing culture of taking care of your associates so they can take care of our guests,” Wright said on behalf of his staff. “This fundamental core company value is the backbone for the hotel’s success as we continue to strive for excellence.”
According to the MHLA, the top honor recognized the College Park Marriott Hotel & Conference Center for demonstrating excellence in hospitality, service, and quality, as well as setting standards for others to follow in areas of community service, guest relations, sustainability, and employee engagement.
The awards luncheon was hosted at the College Park Marriott Hotel & Conference Center, which also was the presenting sponsor for the event. The facility is located on the campus and global headquarters of UMGC. The celebration recognized deserving hotels and team members who have gone above and beyond this year to provide excellent service to their guests and communities.
Nominations were submitted by MHLA members, and 30 winners were announced in 10 categories celebrating the contributions across hotel departments, including managers, general managers, and frontline staff.
MHLA is a trade-based membership organization representing Maryland’s $8 billion lodging industry with more than 700 hotels and 80,000 rooms across the state.
