If motivation is an issue for you to get out and exercise, University of Maryland Global Campus has an answer. Sign up for the 2022 Virtual FUND RUN and help support the university’s Veterans Assistance Fund.

During the week-long event (Oct. 31 to Nov. 6), participants run or walk as a group or individually—from anywhere in the world—and track total miles covered. The event is open to students, faculty, staff, alumni, family and friends.

At the end of the week, both the individual and the team who average the highest number of miles will have their names displayed on a plaque at UMGC’s Stateside Veterans Lounge located at the university's Dorsey Station education center in Elkridge, Md.

To register, visit umgc.edu/fundrun. There is a $35 fee to participate, which goes directly to support the Veterans Assistance Fund. The goal is to raise $7,500 worth of registrations, in recognition of the university’s 75th anniversary.

The Veterans Assistance Fund was established to help military and veteran students enrolled at UMGC cover costs related to education when financial aid, Tuition Assistance, and VA benefits are unavailable or exhausted.

The fund is available to qualified students experiencing financial hardship and can be used to offset costs related to tuition, degree completion, or transition to civilian life. As of August 2022, the Veterans Assistance Fund has supported nearly 100 student veterans with more than $183,000 in grant-based assistance, keeping recipients on track to complete their educational goals.
