Adelphi, Md. (Aug. 31, 2022)—University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC), one of the nation’s leading institutions for transfer students, and Moraine Valley Community College, one of the largest two-year institutions in Illinois, have announced a partnership that will expand the reach of UMGC’s 135+ online academic programs and increase the affordability of a bachelor’s degree to the community college’s more than 24,000 students.

Under the guaranteed transfer admission agreement, students can transfer a minimum of 60 credits when they complete their associate degree and be guaranteed admission to a UMGC bachelor’s degree program in a complementary field of study.

“We are proud to team up with Moraine Valley to provide an additional pathway for students to achieve their educational goals as seamlessly and affordably as possible,” said Blakely Pomietto, senior vice president and chief academic officer at UMGC. “With our wide array of academic programs and our decades-long experience in offering high-quality courses online, UMGC can play a valuable part in the journey of Moraine Valley’s students.”

All degree-seeking Moraine Valley Community College students, graduates, and employees of the college, as well as their spouses and dependents who attend the college, will receive a waiver of the UMGC application fee and a discount on out-of-state tuition for most programs of study.

“Many of our students have learned they enjoy and thrive in a remote learning environment, which is why our partnership with the University of Maryland Global Campus is a win for everyone involved,” said Dr. Sylvia Jenkins, president of Moraine Valley. “We strive to provide our students with a range of opportunities to earn a bachelor’s degree when they graduate from Moraine Valley because we know furthering your education will give you more chances of success. We are happy to make this connection for the benefit of our students.”

UMGC has an enrollment of more than 90,000 students, more than half of whom are active-duty military personnel and their families serving on military bases around the world.

UMGC offers award-winning online programs in disciplines including biotechnology, cybersecurity, data analytics, and information technology that are in high demand in today’s increasingly technical, global workplace. UMGC also offers cost savings through its use of digital resources, which have replaced costly publisher textbooks in most courses.
