University’s agreement with Leidos offers company’s employees, their spouses and dependents access to higher education

Adelphi, Md. (Jan. 28, 2019) — University of Maryland University College (UMUC) announced today that it has signed an agreement addendum with Leidos, one of the nation’s largest government contractors, to offer eligible employees, their spouses and dependents the opportunity to complete degrees or pursue higher education at UMUC at discounted rates. Through the agreement, which is renewable annually, employees, spouses and dependents are eligible for a waiver of UMUC’s application fee and non-Maryland residents can receive a 25 percent discount on out-of-state tuition rates for most programs.

“UMUC is proud to build on our agreement with Leidos to bring affordable, quality education within reach for Leidos’ employees, their spouses and dependents,” said UMUC Chief Academic Officer Alan Drimmer, Ph.D. “For more than 70 years, UMUC has maintained a central focus on the needs of adult students, the workforce and the military. Agreements such as this align fully with our mission, at once expanding educational opportunities for working professionals while strengthening our workforce and economy. It truly represents a win-win proposition.”

Under the agreement, Leidos employees, their spouses and dependents can take individual courses or enroll in any of UMUC’s more than 90 undergraduate and graduate degree or certificate programs, most of which are available fully online. Most costly publisher textbooks have been replaced by no-cost online resources, and students enrolling in The Undergraduate School may be eligible to transfer credits from other institutions, earn credit for prior learning—or both—thus shortening the path to a baccalaureate degree.

"As a UMUC Alumnus, I can't adequately express the value that UMUC provides military members, their families and countless civilian and contractor teams who support the nation's most critical missions every day," said Vice President Jack B. Terry, Leidos Intelligence Group, Cyber and SIGINT Solutions.  "UMUC understands what it means to serve. They provide flexible and targeted services to support today's war fighters while preparing them for their transition to civilian life.  Leidos is proud to continue our relationship with UMUC, to serve those who serve us."
