The upcoming one-day session brings together leaders from industry and education to examine the chief information security officer job and the skills that are needed to navigate current cyber threats and career concerns.ADELPHI, Md. (Oct. 4, 2018) – On October 9, 2018 at the Hyatt Regency Baltimore Inner Harbor, University of Maryland University College (UMUC) will present a one-day education track at the CyberMaryland Conference focusing on the role of chief information security officer (CISO). Academic leaders and professionals in the public and private sectors will discuss the role of the CISO—and the certifications, training, and education CISOs need to deal with an ever-changing cyber threat landscape.
“This year’s education track brings together senior-level cyber professionals for in-depth discussions of the role of the CISO and the top concerns associated with the position,” said Dr. Emma Garrison-Alexander, vice dean, Cybersecurity & Information Assurance at UMUC. “Our roster of industry leaders will share their insights into growing the CISO pipeline and the steps needed to become a leader in the cybersecurity field.”
Sessions in the education track will focus on top CISO concerns, critical skills needed to succeed, and academic preparation for a CISO career. Noted topics will include the results of the Ponemon Institute’s January 2018 survey “What CISOs Worry About;” as well as the areas critical for CISOs in addressing data breaches, disruptive technologies and other security threats; and the education requirements needed for CISOs to handle the responsibilities of the position.
Leading off the track on Tuesday, Oct. 9, will be a keynote address by Marcus Sachs, chief security officer, Pattern Computer, North American Electric Reliability Corporation and Verizon's Vice President for National Security Policy. The topic of his address is "What CISOs Worry About and How They Have Prepared!"
