UMGC Global Media Center UMUC and American Water Establish Education Alliance

New Alliance Offers American Water Employees, Their Spouses and Dependents a Discount on Higher Education

Adelphi, Md. (April 9, 2018) — University of Maryland University College (UMUC) announced today that it has signed an agreement with American Water, the largest and most geographically diverse U.S. publicly-traded water and wastewater utility company, to offer its members, their spouses and dependents more affordable options to complete degrees or pursue higher education at UMUC. Through this agreement, members, their spouses and dependents are eligible for a 25 percent discount on out-of-state tuition rates for most programs.

“We are pleased and excited to form this alliance with American Water,” said Blakely Pomietto, acting provost and senior vice president for academic affairs at UMUC. “The relationship can be a catalyst to a more educated workforce, which has real benefits for American Water and their employees, as well as for the local economies across the country where they live and work.”

Through the partnership, American Water employees, their spouses and dependents can take individual courses or enroll in any of UMUC’s 80-plus undergraduate and graduate degree or certificate programs, most of which are available fully online. Students enrolling in UMUC’s undergraduate school may transfer credits from other universities. They can also be awarded credit for prior learning if eligible under UMUC’s standard policies and procedures.

“We are excited to partner with UMUC to offer these unique benefits to our employees and their families,” said Melanie Kennedy, senior vice president, Human Resources.  “American Water is committed to supporting our employees’ professional and personal growth, and works hard to provide an environment where involved, valued and responsible employees can thrive.”
