University of Maryland University College’s undergraduate program in Computer Networks and Cybersecurity has received the International Council of E-Commerce Consultants (EC-Council) 2017 Circle of Excellence award. The EC-Council, a member-based organization that certifies individuals in various e-business and information security skills, selected the UMUC program for its commitment to educating the cybersecurity workforce.
“This is a very prestigious honor,” said Ajay Gupta, program chair, computer networks and cybersecurity at UMUC. “It’s a testament to the dedication of our faculty and staff, and the impact they are having with our students and on building the cybersecurity workforce.”
UMUC partners with industry-standard certification programs such as the EC-Council, so that students can use the knowledge they gain through certifications and training programs in the electronic commerce and information security space to earn credit toward their degrees. The EC-Council includes more than 1,000 academic partners from K-12, technical institutes, colleges and universities.
“EC-Council runs global partner awards each year to highlight the highest levels of education, training and instruction within our partner communities,” said Wesley Alvarez, director of Academics at the EC-Council. “As a member of our academic partner community, UMUC embodies our motto of preparing the next generation of cybersecurity experts.”
The Circle of Excellence award was presented to UMUC at the EC-Council Partner Awards ceremony, held prior to its annual Hacker Halted events in Atlanta, Georgia, on Oct. 8.
