The University of Maryland University College (UMUC) Alumni Association has honored seven outstanding alumni volunteers for their exceptional service to UMUC.

As in the past, the Honors, which recognize individual alumni who enrich the UMUC community through their intellectual, social, cultural, and service contributions, were bestowed during the association’s annual Alumni Reception and Awards celebration—now in its 27th year.

Awards are granted in four categories. Christine A. Ross ‘06, ‘08 received the "Distinguished Alumnus Award," the highest alumni award granted at UMUC. The award was created in 1976 to recognize an alumna or alumnus who has realized outstanding personal and professional achievement while demonstrating exemplary service.

Other awardees were:

  • Hakeem A. Basheerud-Deen ’98, recipient of the "Executive Business Leader Award"
  • Kelisa Wing '08, recipient of the "Edward A. Parnell Outstanding Alumna Award"
  • Anissa Anne Alston ’12; Gregory Barber ‘07, ‘12, ’15; Kirk Platt ’99; and Vernon Green Jr. ‘10, ’14, all "Achiever Award recipients.
