UMGC Global Media Center Winners Announced for 3rd Biennial Maryland Regional Juried Art Exhibition

University of Maryland University College (UMUC) Arts Program has announced the winners of its third Biennial Maryland Regional Juried Art Exhibition (BMRE), which opens to the public September 18, runs to December 31, and features works by new and emerging artists from throughout Maryland, Washington, D.C., and Northern Virginia.

Exhibit jurors, including Nina C. Dwyer; Vanessa Thaxton-Ward, PhD; and Gretchen Schermerhorn assessed and selected from a multitude of works that showcased a diversity of styles in multiple mediums, such as sculpture, drawing, painting and mixed media.

2016 BMRE Award Winners

1st Place - President's Best of Show Award Mike McConnell, Bear Carver (diptych, right panel), 2015, acrylic on panel, 48 x 60 inches

More About Exhibit’s Guest Jurors Artist Gretchen Schermerhorn is artistic director at Pyramid Atlantic, a contemporary arts center in Hyattsville, Maryland. Vanessa Thaxton-Ward, PhD, is curator and interim director at Hampton University Museum, Hampton, Virginia. Nina Chung Dwyer is an adjunct professor of art at Montgomery College, Rockville, Maryland.
