Exploring the Lives of the Women of Riversdale House in 19th-Century Maryland

Join the UMGC community for a special program in honor of National Women's History Month, presented by the Office of Community Engagement and Opportunity in collaboration with the History and African American Studies program. The conversation will explore the lives of two women connected to historic Riversdale in Prince George's County, Maryland.

Rosalie Calvert and Emily Plummer, women from drastically different backgrounds, both had ties to the same property but held starkly contrasting roles and expectations. While their worlds were shaped by different experiences, their stories highlight the relationships and unequal opportunities women encountered and the perseverance women displayed in 19th-century America.
