National German, Italian, and Polish American Heritage Month
According to data from the U.S. Census Bureau, more than 66 million Americans report German, Italian, or Polish ancestry. So join the UMGC community for an exciting in-person only program featuring a panel of UMGC employees representing the three countries that we are celebrating this month.
The panel discussion will provide a glimpse into each country’s distinctive history, customs, cuisines, traditions, and national pride that help enrich the fabric of American life. The conversation will also examine cultural myths and stereotypes. Attendees will be able to ask questions and sample food from all three countries.
About the Panel Members
Felix Lehmann, a programmer at UMGC, was born in East Germany and fled to West Berlin with his parents shortly before his 10th birthday. He moved to the United States in 2003 and became a naturalized citizen in 2025.
John Leoniak is an assistant director in Student Affairs. He is a second-generation Polish American from Greenpoint, Brooklyn, which is still a predominantly Polish neighborhood.
Gia'Donna Nichols-Holmes is the portfolio manager for Business Administration and Management and Healthcare Administration. She grew up in a Sicilian/Italian family.
