Sexual Misconduct Investigative and Adjudicative Process

Reporting Process for Sexual Misconduct Involving a Student

When an incident of sexual misconduct involving a UMGC student is reported, the university will initiate the following steps:

  1. Initial assessment
  2. Notice of investigation
  3. Sexual misconduct investigation completed within 60 days, if possible (may be extended)
  4. Notice of outcome shared with relevant parties (Subject to FERPA requirements)
    1. If a violation is found, findings will be sent to Code of Conduct Administrator and Code of Conduct Administrator will determine appropriate sanctions
  5. Appeal to Provost's designee within 10 days of receipt of decision
  6. Issuance of appeal decision within 30 days

Reporting Process for Sexual Misconduct Involving an Employee or Faculty Member

When an incident of sexual misconduct involving a UMGC employee or faculty member is reported, the university will initiate the following steps:

  1. Initial assessment
  2. Notice of investigation
  3. Sexual misconduct investigation completed within 60 days, if possible (may be extended)
  4. Notice of outcome shared with relevant parties (Subject to Employee Confidentiality)
    1. Faculty: If a violation is found, findings will be sent to the Provost's designee, who will determine appropriate sanctions
    2. Staff: If a violation is found, findings will be sent to the Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer's designee, who will determine appropriate sanctions
  5. Appeal to President's designee within 10 days of receipt of decision
  6. Issuance of appeal decision within 30 days
