On November 11, 2016, University of Maryland Global Campus renamed its student veterans lounge at a special Veterans Day ceremony in recognition of a $500,000 gift from Lt Col Dona Hildebrand (USAF-Retired), '57, on behalf of her late husband, Col Floyd G. Hildebrand, '58. The newly renamed Col Floyd G. and Lt Col Dona R. Hildebrand Student Veterans Lounge is located at the UMGC Academic Center at Largo.
The Hildebrand's $500,000 gift will provide support for military students and UMGC's Global Military Operations unit. A portion of it will be used to match donations to the following four funds:
The Pillars of Strength Scholarship Fund provides full scholarship support to volunteer caregivers of injured and disabled servicemembers and veterans and is sponsored by The Blewitt Foundation, the Yellow Ribbon Fund, and UMGC.
Established in 2016, the Veterans Assistance Fund helps student veterans enrolled at UMGC cover costs related to their education when veterans benefits are unavailable or exhausted.
The Military Veteran Scholarship Fund supports UMGC's military veterans, their spouses, and their dependents by providing scholarships to take courses at UMGC. Priority is given to veterans who served in Afghanistan or Iraq.
The Military Spouse Scholarship Fund provides scholarship support to military spouses enrolled in classes at UMGC.
