The University of Maryland University College Cyber Padawans team has received a Silver Award for their entry in the 2016 National Cyber Analyst Challenge (NCAC).

The team is now qualified to participate in Phase II–Online Training and Phase III–Finals of the NCAC to be held in Washington D.C., October 27–28, 2016. The Cyber Padawans will receive $6,000, along with an industry mentor and training to compete in the finals for a $25,000 award.

Entries were reviewed by a panel of industry experts and scored on presentation, incident and content analysis, and technical accuracy and skills. The NCAC had double the submissions this year, with 20 schools submitting highly competitive entries. Lanetra Solomon, UMUC's Assistant Administrative Director for the Undergraduate School, described the competition as "intense."
