Lawrence Philp’s Color Grid

Join the UMGC Arts Program on Sunday, June 19, to celebrate the opening of Lawrence Philp’s Color Grid.

Born in 1949 in New York City, Lawrence Philp knew at an early age that he was going to be an artist. At the Rhode Island School of Design in Providence and the School of Art and Design at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, along with his many teaching experiences, Philp gained the knowledge he needed to have a serious career in art. When he met Robert (Bob) Blackburn and was invited to his Printmaking Workshop, his inspiration to create soared. Now living in Rex, Georgia, Philp spends his time creating inspirational, colorful, and culturally relevant art.

Philp has exhibited his works widely, including at the Museo de Arte Moderno de Buenos Aires (Argentina), Kenkeleba Gallery (New York, New York), and Butler Institute of American Art (Youngstown, Ohio). He has taught art at Middlebury College (Vermont), Hartwick College (Oneonta, New York), and Parsons School of Design (New York, New York), as well as holding artist residencies and receiving numerous grants and fellowships. His works can be found in many public and private collections.
