Restore Our Earth, this year's theme for Earth Day, focuses on natural processes, emerging green technologies, and innovative thinking that can restore the world's ecosystems.

Join the UMGC community for a special presentation on regenerative agriculture and how it contributes to restoring soil health.

Regenerative agriculture concentrates on regenerating topsoil, increasing biodiversity, and improving the water cycle to enhance the health of farm soil. It also increases resilience to climate change and supports biosequestration by pulling carbon from the atmosphere and storing it in the ground.

Guest speaker Keith Ohlinger will provide a background on regenerative agriculture and discuss practices such as recycling and composting that can be performed in our own backyards and communities.

About the Speaker

Keith Ohlinger, owner of Porch View Farm in Howard County, Maryland, is an advocate for regenerative agriculture and has served on more than 20 state and regional boards, advisory councils, and committees related to food, agriculture, soil, and sustainability. He applies regenerative agriculture techniques on his own farm—where he raises heritage breeds of cattle, sheep, pigs, geese, and rabbits, as well as honeybees—to help improve soil health, reduce carbon emissions, and protect the Chesapeake Bay.
