Social Angles and Interactions

The Photography of Andy Warhol, William J. Anderson, and A. Aubrey Bodine

Over the past 10 years, UMGC has been the fortunate recipient of several collections of artworks by these three American artists. Through the generosity of the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, UMGC received approximately 140 Polaroid photographs by the famed Andy Warhol. These images provide a glimpse into the social life of one of the world’s most famous artists. William J. Anderson documented the social inequalities of poverty-stricken rural communities in the South, recording poor housing and living conditions as well as dignity and courage. A. Aubrey Bodine captured breathtaking images of Baltimore and Maryland’s landscapes and traditions that reveal social perspectives and interactions. All three of these artists mastered the process of photography to create black-and-white works of art that provide the viewer with a chance to live in their worlds for a moment.
