Nonprofit and Association Law and Governance

Course Desc: A study of current ideas and approaches related to nonprofit law, governance, and mission. Discussion covers distinctions between nonprofit, educational, charitable, social action, membership, cultural, scientific, environmental, and trade associations as they relate to incorporation, legal standing, tax-exempt status, and governance. Topics include nonprofit governance and trustee issues, as well as lobbying and advocacy, nonprofit liability, personnel, and unrelated business income tax. Special attention is paid to the relationship of governance and ethics in nonprofit management.
