Military & Veterans Scholarships

UMGC designates scholarships for active-duty military, veterans, and military spouses and families

University of Maryland Global Campus offers undergraduate and graduate students a wide range of scholarships—many of which are slated specifically for military personnel, veterans, spouses, and family members.

Many of these scholarships can be earned through our donor scholarship process. If you meet the specific eligibility criteria for one or more of these scholarships, you will be sent an invitation to apply. The Office of Financial Aid then matches students with one or more scholarships that align with their specific criteria. Scholarships are awarded based on merit, financial need, military affiliation, program of study, and other considerations.

Veterans Assistance Fund

The Veterans Assistance Fund is designed to help military and veteran students enrolled at UMGC cover costs related to their education when Federal financial aid, Tuition Assistance, and VA benefits are unavailable or exhausted.

Pillars of Strength Scholarship Program

The Pillars of Strength Scholarship includes full tuition, fees, and course-required resources. The program aims to honor the unparalleled selflessness and extraordinary commitment of caregivers of recovering servicemembers and veterans. Learn about the 2020 winners of the scholarship, who demonstrated extraordinary perseverance and navigated challenging obstacles on their personal and academic journeys.

UMGC-NMFA Scholarship for Military Spouses

Every year UMGC awards at least 10 scholarships, worth up to $1,500 each, to spouses of active-duty, Reserve, and National Guard servicemembers through the National Military Family Association.

Military New Graduate Student Savings Program

Active-duty military students, reserves, and their spouses and dependents may be eligible for the Military New Graduate Student Savings Program. Eligible students can save on most master’s degrees and graduate certificates when they enroll as a new graduate student at UMGC and qualify for the military tuition rate.
